How will I know if I need a deep cleaning?
We determine the health of our patient’s tissues and gums surrounding their teeth during a comprehensive exam. At this time, we may recommend a deeper cleaning procedure, called scaling and root planning, for patients with signs of periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a very serious oral and systemic health problem.
What does a deep cleaning involve?
Specialized instruments are used to remove plaque and calculus (hard plaque) that has built up below the surface of the gums.
How is gum disease managed over the long term?
We may recommend that patients with signs of periodontal (gum) disease be seen for cleanings every three months to avoid surgery and more invasive treatment with a Periodontist.
