Dr. Margaret Somers came to the United States from Europe when she was 14 years old and is fluent in English and Polish. She started her exploration of dentistry as a dental assistant, and then attended Bergen Community College where she graduated with a degree in Applied Science and began working as a dental hygienist. Continuing her climb up the dental ladder, Dr. Somers earned a scholarship to attend dental school at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. In January of 1996, she became a U.S. citizen, and that spring she graduated from dental school.
Dr. Somers purchased her current practice in 1999 from Dr. Leonard Cole who was a dentist in Hawthorne, NJ for over 30 years. She is currently a member of the American Dental Association and the New Jersey Dental Association. She attends numerous advanced education courses to keep up with all current advancements in dentistry.
Dr. Somers understands that patients are often afraid of the dentist. Fear is something that frequently keeps people from getting proper dental care. Dr. Somers’ personal and clinical experiences have paved the way for the compassion that she extends to her patients. She asserts that it is extremely important to have routine dental care to maintain your teeth and improve your physical well-being. Studies have shown that periodontal disease is linked to heart disease, premature birth and low birth weight, diabetes, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease and other health related conditions.
