Tooth Colored/White Fillings
What is a composite restoration?
Composite restorations are white fillings that are used to restore chips, cracks and cavities in front teeth. A composite restoration very closely resembles the tooth surrounding it.
Is composite the right filling material for every situation?
Before placing a composite restoration, Dr. Somers evaluates her patients to be sure that composite is the appropriate material to use for their dental situation. This material is best suited to fill areas that are small to moderate in size.
How does composite work?
The tooth-colored fillings are chemically bonded to the proximate tooth structure. The filling material starts as a putty and is placed layer by layer into a prepared tooth. Then a light with a specific wavelength is used to cure or harden the filling to give it strength. Finally, the surface of the composite restoration is polished to comfort.
